Thulani Serero should be fit to make his UEFA Champions League debut for Ajax Amsterdam against French Ligue 1 side Lyon on Wednesday.
The Bafana Bafana youngster missed the weekend’s 3-2 Eredivisie victory over Heracles with a hamstring strain picked up in the training last week; the first League match he has not featured in this season.
However, he played for the Ajax reserve side on Monday night in their 5-2 win over NEC, proving his fitness ahead of Lyon.
Serero was his usual busy self and laid on a superb pass for Nicolás Lodeiro to make the score 2-0.
He is likely to now feature on the bench on Wednesday night and could be given some game-time to make his bow in Europe’s elite club competition.
It would be another huge step forward for the 21-year-old, who over the last year has turned from promising youngster into one of the country’s most exciting players of the future.
Aside from Lyon, Ajax will also face Real Madrid and Dinamo Zagreb in this year’s Champions League competition.
